Everytime I go to someone's house where there's a cat, it's like people kind of want to have conversation with me but I'm too busy hitting on the cute tabby in the corner.
Ha, I totally get that. I get like a little kid and practically run around squeaking "kitty, kitty!"

He likes to drag stuff down to the basement. We find all manner of random items down there that he's made off with....
Cats that think they're dogs, dogs that think they're cats.... Where does the boundary really lie?
I think the cat my parents had when I was very small really only fetched dead mice. Blech. But one of the dogs used to "herd" shoes when we were out. We'd come home, and all Dad's shoes would have been taken upstairs to the family room. And two of the dogs once managed to chase a
ground
hog up a tree. See where determination and perseverance can get you?

One of the great tragedies of my (fairly short) life. If I lived in the US and had $5,000 to spare, I would get a hypoallergenic cat.
If you have the chance, definitely look into the desensitizing shots. I had them for three years, and they made a HUGE difference in my allergies. Used to be I couldn't spend more than 10 minutes in my in-laws' house without sneezing and getting very wheezy. Now it takes a couple of hours for me to notice any symptoms. I can also cut the grass now without a problem.
Also, a question - why do all these cats have names? What's the point of naming something that refuses to come when you call it?

Most of ours will come. What differs is the time we can expect to wait. Erik will come running immediately, regardless of which cat is actually called. Lola will usually respond pretty fast, too, though at 15 she takes her time a bit more. Chase will come running if he thinks someone will play with him. Thor will casually mosey his way along...pace completely dependent upon how close it is to meal time.

My cat, Chloe, used to coo when you said her name. She loved to hear her name.

Mine wouldn't always come (again depending an proximity to mealtime - shaking the box of cat biscuits ALWAYS worked however) but she would usually answer.

DW"s cat. She wants another one. One toilet bowl drinking furry creature is enough.

My mother once decided that my sister's daughter (my niece) needed a pet cat so she got her one at the shelter. My sister decided that the cat was "too rough" (it was a tiny kitten at the time) so she returned the cat to my mother--up until that time the cat had no name, but My mother called her Penny, as in the bad penny that returns. My Mother and Dad would feed the cat shrimp (prepared for human's) and do whatever the cat wanted.
Several years later my mother developed cancer, and after she passed away, my father who had "Levy's Bodies Dementia" could not live by heimself. He went to a nursing home and Penny went to live with my mother-in-law and father in law. They also fed the cat shrimp and opened and closed the doors for the cat and let the cat do whatever she wanted.
Eventually my in-laws could not longer care for themselves being over 90 and they went to a nursing home and Penny came to live with me. Within a day, she completely dominated my three resident cats and installed herself as the "alpha cat". She is always slipping out the door of our apartment to look around the hallway. Sometimes when she wants to go out the door she stands by the door and looks at me and meows loudly...if I don't open it to let her run around in the hall, she'll walk over to me and start hitting my leg with her paw to try to get my attention.
Also, did I mention that she is an evil genius?
If I had to guess I would say Penny wrote the cat diary.

This is a tangent, but I really like the expression, "Dead cat bounce": "Even a dead cat will bounce if it falls from a great height". It's used in everything from stock markets to McCain's recent polling improvement. Heh.
On another tangent, this is just sick but funny nevertheless:

No, I don't want the damned combo special. Now quit asking me that.

Really, you guys let allergies and cats mix? I guess you are more tolerant of mucous than I.
I am allergic to one of my cats and I swear by Nasonex. However, I'm also allergic to house dust mites, so even if I got rid of the snot-inducing cat, I'd still have allergies.

Yep. I am fairly certain I have cat allergies, but the seasonal stuff is really the bane of my existence. Spring and Fall are horrible for me. Getting rid of my kitties wouldn't likely change matters much. I live in a dusty old house with some mold issues (hello, new roof!). I need to move somewhere with no mold or trees.

I hear ya <mucous smiley>. I also seem to always end up living in houses with mould and dust issues. The funny thing is, since I've been living with 'im indoors, he seems to have caught my allergies.
Either that or I brought the dust and mould with me.
Either that or under my nefarious influence, he has gone from clean freak to pretty cool about regular dusting.
And for good measure...

I had a look at the dog version of this site and it just isn't the same. Does that say something about the intrinsic humourousness of cats or about their owners?</mucous>

I was wondering if I was the only one who thought that...
