| The kids lost a DVD, Scooby Doe and the Witches Ghost. $75 they were going to charge. I bought it off ebay for $3.50, luckily I did not loose the case. $75, can you believe it? |

Doesn't Blockbuster have a thing where they don't charge late fees but they charge you for the cost of the movie after about 2 weeks late and then refund it with a "restocking fee"?
That is usually just a slightly elevated retail price where I'm at and they print it on the receipt.
$75 sounds completely crazy. |

I have 30 days to return and get charged a late fee, else the $75 restocking fee. It's not on the receipt. When I called and let them I know I had issue she said that is what it was. It's an old kid's movie, 100s of scooby movies, they'd survive without this one.
I may just rent from red box. There it's a $1/day and after 25 days the movie is yours.

I pull up iTunes. I find a movie. I click rent and $2.99 gets taken off my credit card. After a moment, the movie is on my computer and I can watch it there or on my TV.
Don't even have to find my car keys or pay Netflix-like subscription fees. No late fees either.

If you watch more then 3 movies a month Netflix would be cheaper I've had Netflix for a couple years now and only 1 dvd was lost in the mail. I reported it lost and they sent me another without any charge. |

Netflix has been a little squirrely for me lately--they somehow sent a disc back to themselves a few weeks ago--but overall it's great. I don't have to leave my block to rent a movie or send it back. |

I use redbox - we dont rent that often and since we are usually making a trip to the supermarket every other day anyway there is no extra trip. Plus, each movie is only $1 a day. I can also reserve it from my computer and it is waiting for me when I get there.
I used to have Netflix, but to beat redbox I would need to watch like 18 movies a month - a bit much. |

I use netflix, redbox, and my local video store (are they called DVD stores now??). I like netflix a lot because I am notoriously late with returning my movies, but I sometimes get a little impatient waiting for them to arrive. I also don't care for the website when it comes to browsing for movies....I really like looking at a wall of DVD cases instead. I really like redbox cause it's cheap and fast and if it's late...well it's only another dollar each day. I think once I had a redbox movie for like two weeks but even still...not horrible (esp compared to what the local store would have charged in late fees). And finally, I do still frequent my local store because like I said, sometimes I just need to look at the walls of movies to be able to choose something. I also really like my local store for the employee's picks and stuff (it's a mom and pop operation, no big hollywood video or blockbuster for me).
Personally, I think the stores screw themselves by charging enormous late fees and/or restocking fees as you mentioned...if you have a movie for a month, it's not even worth returning it at that point. I would argue that most people would just find a new store. Who wants to pay $100 in late fees for a single movie? |

Ya, the problem is the kids like going to the video store and having one in hand. The kids are currently grounded from movies, maybe after that I'll use the library. |

I hesitated clicking on this thread for awhile because I didn't want to see anyone's 'blockbuster beef'.
Anyway, I haaaaaate blockbuster. I'm a netflix guy, although I do miss the days of seeing all the boxes on the racks.
I guess what I'm saying is that I'm a lot more interested in nice racks than blockbuster beef. |
