Is this the starting line for the Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon ("Now, walk the plank!")?
Yes.
But on race day the plank is on a boat surrounded by sharks with laser beams on their heads. If you survive that, then the hills will likely get you. If you somehow survive the hills, the flying monkeys will get you. There is technically no need for a finish line - but Trent puts one in anyway to give people false hope.
When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

1. Use the field called "direct link for layouts"... in your case it looks like http://i49.tinypic.com/i40bja.jpg
2. Punch the button that looks like a tree and put http://i49.tinypic.com/i40bja.jpg in there.
Are we there, yet?
I've tried using flickr and all I get is the box with the red X. On flickr I've tried pasting using the Grab the link url and also tried using the Grab the html. Neither works for me. I've also tried by linking to my FB photo. No luck. What am I doing wrong?
2024 Races:
03/09 - Livingston Oval Ultra 6-Hour, 22.88 miles
05/11 - D3 50K, 9:11:09 06/17 - 6 Days in the Dome 12-Hour.
I've been on RA for over 2 years, and this is the 1 thing that is most humbling for me.
I've yet to figure out how to load a picture, and I've asked on more than 1 occasion, and have been given the same answer on every occasion. Yet, when I try to follow the rules, I'm unable to make it happen.
I've stopped trying.

You have to have a url that points to a picture on the web, not to a page with a picture, but the picture itself. As a check, the url, no matter how long, must end with .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif. The following url works:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/be/Boeing_B-52G_in_flight_061026-F-1234S-021.jpg/250px-Boeing_B-52G_in_flight_061026-F-1234S-021.jpg
This one, however, does not:

(Just chose Wikipedia's story of the day.)
So, if you're posting something from a web page, make sure you get just the image showing in your browser; no banner, no menus, no text at all; just the image; then copy that url. If you're using Tinypic or Flickr, make sure they give you the image url, not the page's url.
MTA: In Firefox, right-click on the picture and select View Image. In Chrome, it's Open Image in New Tab. In IE, hmm, I guess it's harder. Looks like you have to select Properties and copy the address (URL).

Thanks. That finally worked. Flickr was giving links to the page. I copied just the url in the src= from the Grab the HTML code and that worked.
in addition to Led's post, if you're a Ubuntu user with Chromium as your browser, it's right-click and then Copy Image URL.
i just chose this completely random thread image by way of example:

i think i've got a calf injury.

Random works a lot better for you than it does for me.

Can I assume the biggest issue with allowing users to upload images has more to do with administrative/legal issues than storage? You need to guard against people uploading bad stuff like porn or REALLY bad stuff like, well we all know what kind of bad stuff is out there.
