Peach, super to see you back at 6 miles already. Don't build too quickly.
Erika, another congrats on your race and sorry to hear about your son's smart decision not to run that day. That weather sounds awful
Rest day for me today. I have to admit, I'm pretty sore from my long run yesterday. Great day with the girl scouts. Rock climbing walls, zip lines.... Great confidence boosters.
Bugs, that is some bed. Very cool. |
I ran a mile and I liked it, liked it, liked it.

| Ok maybe yall can help me...what mental tricks or whatever do you use to get through that last six miles of hell? I really believe I could've finished under 6 hrs but was hurtting and couldn't take it anymore....so I slowed down. I want to avoid doing that this time. |

Dave, I was wondering how you are feeling. Maybe get a massage tomorrow? Foam roll everything .Do you have access to swimming pool? The water feels so good to tired legs and will help you recover quicker. I think most people would be better off (training and injury wise) doing their recovery jogs in the pool, but what do I know. It's never too late for an ice-bath.
Peach, Solid Training, Smart Taper and beyond that you have to run within yourself. Funny I was thinking today about those last 6 miles and how I was looking forward to them. There I tend to find something about myself that not everyone has. On the second marathon you will get to mile 23, 24, and be able to say, "Hey I've been here before, I don't have far to go now." Another tip is not to start walking. Your head will say, "let's walk just for a bit", not true, walk once you'll walk at least six times.
Took a nap today. Taper is not that bad, but boy I feel like a fat pig. |

| I didn't walk any during last marathon, even the last 6, I just slowed down. I remember going under an over pass and seeing a dude who'd already finished with his medal on leaning against the wall..I thought to myself, god I want to stop, I can't take this anymore....please kill me now lol |

Another way to approach it would be to deliberately walk. It would presume that you're running just a bit faster pace the rest of the way but breaking stride to walk, even for 30 seconds every couple of miles can make a big difference. I did that on my last one from around 15 to 19 miles (walk break for a minute every mile or two) and the last 6 were hard but I didn't hit the wall.
