P2R, what's the name of your marathon? And it's on Monday? 14 lbs heavier?? Wow... and you've run more miles this year, but less this month than last year. Sounds like my year... but I'm still 10 lbs heavier than I want to be. I drop 2-3, feel great about it for a couple days, then next week they're all back. It's very annoying.
5 easy yesterday. Actually, the pace was sort of easy but the run was not. My legs were so tired after the 10.75 Wednesday evening on the marathon course (the hilliest part). I want to run today, it's so nice out! but I'd have to drive to find a flat spot and won't have time after work cuz we've got a dinner party thing at my sister's. This is a big weekend with my last 20+ mile run and over 30 total for the weekend, so maybe I should just rest it today.
Bugs, do the hillier race. Then use that time with the McMillan tool to get a target marathon pace. I can't remember when you said the 5k was... but I hate 5k's so I'd blow it off.
Have a great weekend everyone! Our weather is looking to be very nice... I may not be able to get online much though, my To Do List is huge!! |

P2R will be sending you ice cold vibes for your marathon that sounds pretty darn humid. I sure hope they have ice for you. Good job on the added miles. You think Shan sent you here 10 pounds? Bet it's all muscle.
Erika, I am in the same boat today, should try and run 5 miles but so much going on and a big weekend of running. Bet we both run today.
The kids are coming back today, a day early. I didn't ask why but sounded like they had fun. I wish I had got my butt out and ran this morning. |

Good luck, P2R. Will be interested in your RR to see if the better taper helps. 300 is a serious running month. 10lbs of muscle shouldn't hurt too much.
I'm struggling with a bit of weight gain myself although as my mileage is peaking, my weight is coming down a little bit. I hate to admit it but I'd like to drop another 10 before my race as well.
I got a very easy 5 in today. |
I ran a mile and I liked it, liked it, liked it.

Bugs - I think you will do great with both!
P2R - Yeah for taper and more running this year. Sorry to hear you are up some weight, but I'm sure you are still handsome!
Erika - Don't worry about the weight I'm sure you are gorgeous! Sorry to hear about your sore legs - I hope you can find a nice flat spot. And good luck with the To-do list.
Bugs - I bet you are happy they are home! And I tried not to share my weight with any one person LOL
Dave - be careful trying to lose while training.
I decided against running today so I can syke myself up for tomorrow. Got 13 on the board. I'm contemplating running to my dad's house, but will have to talk it over with DH to see if he thinks it's safe enough.
MTA: thought about trying to run with the group from the running store near me. so I called to ask about it. Their long run pace ranges 7-10 min/mile. That knocks that idea out of the park. Sucks because I was really hoping it would be a good thing. But there is no way I can keep up even with 10mm.
Saturday: I woke up 2 hours late... I have major intestinal distress... |

Sorry about the intestinal distress Shan. Hopefully you feel better by tomorrow's long run.
I was so inspired by Bugs that I decided to go out and see what I could do on a 5K.
22:05.
We still owe each other a virtual 10K but it may have to wait until my next real race. |

Thanks, Shan. I'm a heckuvalot slower than I was when I was younger but its starting to come back with all these miles lately.
This is my highest mileage week ever, highest mileage month, longest training run. All in the same week.
I am SO due for an injury
I mainly did it to get another data point for the McMillan calculator for what I may be able to do for my upcoming 10 miler. It points to something just a bit faster than I was going to try for (7:40 pace vice 7:50). Not sure it will matter. I'll run what I can on that day but I may let myself go out just a bit faster. |

I didn't run Friday, we had dinner at my sister's with friends from New York (she used to live here). That was fun, but it was a very late night... and glad I had my 16 yr old designated driver along!
10.5 miles of rolling hills at 8:09 avg pace. Started out a little creaky with tight shins and cold (45F at start), but I warmed up by that big hill at mile 3. Alternated 8:15 miles with 7:50 miles (+ or - a few seconds) and felt pretty good.
Long run tomorrow of 22 or so miles on the marathon course. Need to get to bed earlier tonight... |

Dave, You are so funny. Great job on the 5K. Best you would be faster in a real race. I may have accidently got your injury.
My achilies is sore. Yesterday I did not run, but massaged quite aggressively. There was knots or lesions, and really felt better but completely bruised, which is normal. It did feel better today but my stupid 20 mile run was a bit ugly. I was at mile 16, wondering if I was going to make when two cute ironmen come zipping by and invited me to join them. They were running easy, but I knew their easy is my tempo so I said no.
I keep ice packets in my car just for such an occasion, what I didn't have was a bandage to wrap it around my ankle. Turns out Victoria Secrets Body By Victoria works perfect. Was thinking on the way home how your Mother says you to always wear good underwear incase you get into a car accident. I was really hoping not to get into an accident, caught with a bra wrapped around my ankle.
I wll be calling graston doc on Tuesday, he said he'd fit me in if I had injury. He fixed similiar injury on achillies two other times, one visit all better. So let's not freak out. Well that's what I'm telling myself. At least the pool is open on Tuesday, it's been closed so no aquajogging till then.
P.S. Forgot fashion report....bra was red. |

Bugs, so sorry to hear about your injury. Appreciate the fashion report. Your story would have been incomplete without knowing it was red
Erika, that sounds like an awesome way to run a 10 miler. Sort of like alternating mile intervals between fast and faster. Hope the 22 went well. I'm wondering if I should go beyond 20.
Shan, how did your 13 go?
What a difference a week made for me and my long run. Where last week ended with a lot of walking, this week I controlled my early pace, got my hydration and gels right, and finished my 19 strong. Average pace was actually faster than last week despite the much slower start and mid miles. Final 4 miles were: 8:33, 8:26, 7:54, and 7:57 (as opposed to 12:20 last mile last week).
The only thing I forgot was some body glide on my chest. My fashion report includes a gray wicking t-shirt with two red stains where my nipples used to be

Dave, Now if you would have been wearing a Victoria Secret bra you'd still have your nipples. Sorry about the shaffing. I swear by the under armour clothes, heat gear. Good job on the 19, now don't overdue it. I felt much stronger after my recovery from my 22. But I had to take a longer recovery. If you do it, I'd recommend 3 weeks before taper. (Was not my plan to run the day I did, just got carried away.)
We need a zen moment for my leg. Everybody please tell me my leg is going to be fine. Going to make it to the start of that marathon in good health, right. (I can't DNS two years in a row.) I've recovered from all kinds of aches and pains, doc will fix this too. Lie if you have to..now make me feel better. |

Bugs: {{{{good legs}}}, {{{{{really great legs}}}}
Dave: Awesome 5k time and longrun. Really looks good for your next M time.
Shan & Erika: Hope you had great longruns today.
War bag is packed for tomorrow and the pasta is cooking on the stove. I'll hit the rack early tonight. The game Saturday night was awesome and I have very little voice left. It was 2:30 this morning when we made it back home. Dogs had me up at 6:30. I grabbed a powernap this afternoon before picking up the run packet but could use more sleep. I also tweaked my lower right leg (behind the knee with pain on the upper calf) on the road bike Saturday morning. Road 31-miles and was enjoying the workout. Still kept the average up just over 17mph on a nice morning. I think the Advil and stick routine have it under control. I will stretch good before turning in. It is supposed to be near 70 tomorrow morning at 6:00.

Bugs your leg will be fine!
Hope Erika is feeling ok after her 22.
700 walking lunges, 300 sumo side slide squats, 100 walking reverse lunges, 3 minutes of box jumps, 50 push ups, 50 sit ups, 9 pull ups, 25 military presses for me today.
8 miles running last night. Finished just after midnight, so I guess technically this morning.
2 mile time trial running and swimming time trial scheduled Tuesday for the tri class.
Dave, I tried body glide for my chest, and it seems to be gone in a mile or so. How thick to you put it on?
I usually put on waterproof surgical tape, but then the g/f makes fun of that look, and doesnt look real good when you have a swim right after the run. Yes I shower after the run. |

P2R, Good Luck!
Cash, That's a lot of lunges. My hip flexors would be screaming.
Well as luck would have it my achilies tendon feels much better however the front of my ankle is a bit swollen and painful. This is a new one for me. Not sure what would be safe XTing so I am just resting for now.
