Greetings, runners! Please tell us about your past training week and upcoming goals.

      Mon 10.3mi (1:32) tm
      Tue 7.4mi (1:37)
      Wed 6.1mi (1:22)
      Thu 9.2mi (1:24) tm
      Fri 9.4mi (1:25) tm
      Sat 8.3mi (1:46)
      Sun 8mi (1:32)

      Total: 58.6 miles

I end up going a bit harder on treadmill and then the outdoor runs are
basically recovery jogs. Really nice weather for most of the week.

Quickadder, interesting about your planned marathon training. Usually, most runners train at paces that are much slower than the goal marathon pace. Like, 1-2 or even 3 minutes per mile slower. The fact that you are consistently running faster might indicate that you could target a somewhat faster pace in the marathon, but that is entirely your call of course and it would depend on how your long runs would go. And yes! Looks like we are going to be on the same team in 2024, looking forward to it !

I'm not sure I would call my expected marathon training 'planned'. I'm just trying to build on the base that I happen to have (basically 20 miles per week at 9:00-10:00 minute pace that jumped to around 35-40 mpw over the 9 weeks of the playoffs) with then 10 weeks to go to the marathon.

I never really planned on running at all - other than using a planned 4-mile race that my stepdaughter had signed up for as a reason to improve my fitness a little at age 60. Then the running bug got me! I joined the local road runners club and started going to a Saturday morning group of runners, some of whom I could keep pace with. Then some of that group started marathon training, aiming at a 4:05 time for a mid-January marathon, doing their weekly long run on Saturday mornings and I'd tag along for a few miles at first, but ended up running most of their 18-20 milers with them. After they completed their marathons, I signed up for Zydeco with about 6 weeks to go, tried to run a 4:05 and faded over the last few miles to finish in 4:32:09 (which is still my PR despite 4 further attempts).

The move to using a TM is in response to my DW's concerns about CoVid and other factors, but I think I should be able to get an occasional long run outdoors over the next few weeks by going to the local State Park with DD (we will run the road loop of about 1.5 miles in opposite directions so that we cross over frequently even though our paces are rather different).

There are a number of factors in setting my target MP. My AG percentage has been consistently around 62-63 across 5K-HM, but never got near that at FM. A 10:20 pace would require an AG of just over 60, which I think would be challenging in ideal conditions, but which would just beat my PR. The weather in Louisiana in early March is not usually conducive to marathon running - the really long-range forecast on accuweather.com was predicting a low of 57F rising to 77F.

Not a promising start for 2024 Team 3. I messaged everyone to see if someone not involved in the current Final would start the process of getting a forum, team name and captains, but have not seen any responses.

My Week 2 of the Final went as follows:

        Monday 4.0 (9:41)

        Tuesday 2.5 (9:42)

        Wednesday 7.0 (9:23)

        Thursday 4.0 (9:51)

        Friday 2.5 (9:38)

        Saturday 8.2 (9:51)

        Sunday 4.5 (9:51)

        Total 32.7 miles (163%)

        Started running at age 60.

        AG 60-64 PR - 5K 25:45, 10K 53:28, HM 1:57:39, Marathon 4:32:09

        AG 65-69 PR - 5K 26:11, HM 2:02:39, Marathon 5:04:47

Upcoming race: Four on the 4th 7/4/24 maybe.

Alexander - Thanks.  Good luck on your Boston prep.

Paul - Nice job getting some runs done last week despite the holiday season.

Quickadder - Good luck to you, too, on your marathon training.

Tammy - Nothing wrong with easing off a bit at the end of the year.

36.9 miles for me last week, including a new ParkRun best, which I credit to finally being able to run the course in less than 64º while no longer recovering from the marathon.

Qucikadder, thank you for sharing your background and the general thought process. It really is a gift that you are able to consistently train on treadmill. Many, many runners I know really cannot run on treadmill, it requires a certain mindset and also (I think) a fairly balanced/symmetric build. With any imbalance the repetitive motion often results in injuries. It took me about 14 years of running to get used to treadmill and while in general I do enjoy treadmill runs, I often feel like they are aggravating my old injuries. But I also had a few opposite experiences, including last year, when I was not able to run outside at all, but I was able to log a few slow miles on treadmill. The target FM pace is always a complicated discussion, I am sure you know what you are doing. Also, for me personally treadmill pace is often quite a bit faster than my normal pace outdoors, so that might be a factor as well. .... I think out Team 3 resolved all issues by now, we have a name and captains, we are all set! ... And another solid week, 7 days of running, with a very consistent pace and longer Saturday run, very nice.

That is quite a week, Fred. 7 days of running with two pace efforts, a race and a long run! Congratulations on the new ParkRun best!
