Alexander - Nice recovery; from the race and the cold.  The Bronx 10 miler was not on my radar.  I ran it 6 years ago and it was such a warm day, that runners were being given rags soaked in ice water once they crossed the finish line.  Plus, I don't know if I want to haul myself all the way from NJ to the Bronx early in the morning for a crowded out-and-back race.  The time I ran it, it was part of the 5-of-6 to guarantee entry into the NYC half.  As to Philly, I may look at that.  I know a couple people who ran it last year and may run it again (yes, it's further for me than the Bronx, but far enough to justify making an overnight trip out of it and doing some sightseeing).

Another moderate week for me.  Track work on Tuesday was out after we got several inches of snow, so I went for an "easy" run of 5.2 miles in the snow, which is a lot more effort than running on clear streets.  My pace run on Thursday was OK, though I'm still lagging on hills compared to my last training cycle.  Friday was an unscheduled rest day as I simply didn't get out there.  Saturday's ParkRun was fun as there was 4" of new-fallen snow on the canal path to race on, so it was a nice adventure.  I was one of two people (out of 22) wearing shorts for the race.  I placed 6th and the other guy in shorts was 3rd, so obviously, shorts are fast. A bit over 35 miles for me for the week.

          Good Morning,

Nice recovery week and a good solid week for you Fred.

          Last week:

          Mon: 4.5

          Tues: 5.6
          Fri: 6.0

          Sat: 10.1 trail

          total: 26.2

This week the weather looks pretty good, especially by the weekend for a long run.

I am tossing around the idea of a race over in central oregon in mid April. I can opt for either the 20 miler or the "marathon" which is more like 28 miles. It's pretty flat - only 1600+ ft over the course of 28 miles so with that in mind, I'm considering pushing myself to do 28 even though I know there will power walking involved. But would be good training for my July 50 miler, which is also going to involve A LOT of power walking. hmmm. not sure yet.

Fred, congratulations on the ParkRun and kudos for racing in the snow, and in shorts!

Tammy, yes I agree that 28 mile is the way to go. You are doing 20 mile trail runs fairly regularly anyway,  but 28 would push you very significantly beyond that. Walking some parts of any long trail run is more or less expected anyway, so I would not worry about that. It really sounds like a perfect training run for the 50 miler.
