    Mornin' Masters.

Mike, don't worry too much about those other guys - they probably don't know they got beat by a lowly racewalker.

I got a link to a short video of me crossing the finish line at the race on Sunday, and I thought, from a racewalking form perspective, that I looked awful. Maybe it was because it was head-on instead of from the side, but I thought I looked clunky instead of fluid and inefficient.

I woke up a bit early today (so much for adjusting to DST), and so was out the door at about 3:50. I was thinking about that video, and tried some things to correct what I thought I was doing wrong. So I tried for quicker, lighter steps and better hip rotation, foot placement, and stride length. It felt good, but my mind's eye doesn't always see things as they are. Still, I got in 6.9 RW miles in blustery (but not as windy as yesterday) 37° temps. Then I did about half an hour of stretching and weights.

That's all I have time for this morning. Have a greta Tuesday.

    Jay

Without ice cream there would be darkness and chaos.

I'm about to head over to the park.  Thanks for the start, Jay.    Today is my half birthday.  That was a thing when I was growing up! Smile  Not as much at 71.5

        (Rambling Post)

I need to figure out when my granddaughters' half-birthdays are and start celebrating them. Unfortunately I think my youngest's half-birthday was last week and my older granddaughter's actual birthday is 2 weeks away so I picked a bad time to have this thought.

My older granddaughter will be 16 in a couple weeks and the word is that she has a boyfriend. I don't know how I feel about that. I still think of her as the 5 year old kid that used to live with us.

I woke up tired and with a bit of an upset stomach, but I decided to get out for a few miles even if I walked most of it. It was chilly but there was pretty sky so I bundled up and got in 3.03 miles of mostly slow running. I got to see the sunrise over Huntington and the Ohio River from up on a ridge. It was windy out and I was dressed appropriately for the segments into the wind, but way overdressed for the segments with the wind.

Back in my Midland Michigan running days there was a racewalker who could go a sub 9:00 pace which was fast enough to beat me on some days. When he would go past me I would think, "How is he doing that?".  I don't know if he just had knee surgery or not.

Interesting meeting at the end of the workday yesterday. The final outcome was that the big project was pushed out 3 months. For the first time in a year I feel like we have a date that could be attainable. I am happy and in a better mood but of course the grouch in me wonders why it wasn't moved out earlier.

Nice racing this weekend, Jay. So great that your surgery and recovery went well.

I've never heard of "half birthday." Regional thing?

Glad to hear the work will be more manageable, Dave.

Well, after further investigation, I've decided the pole barn isn't worth saving. Too much rot on too many posts. I'd hoped I could salvage a chunk of it and turn it into a garden shed but it's not worth the effort. So it looks like I'll be building a big shed / mini-barn for my next project. Should be interesting.

Yesterday's winds were strong enough that I bagged my plans for a make-up ride. Today, I ended up doing a run/walk as I picked up all the branch debris on our road, including one small tree that was lying across the road. Clearly no one had gone by yet. 4.7 miles total.

BTW--Jlynne? Doug? Others? Seems like some of the regulars have been AWOL lately. And I miss our nature photos from British Columbia.

          Be safe. Be kind.

coastwalker, for video to give you an accurate picture of your biomechanics it has to be taken from 3 different angles over a period of time to allow for fatigue, pace, etc.  Good work on the 6.9 RW this morning.

Karen, have fun out there. I'm guessing it's nice out there?

Dave59, the important thing is you got out there, 3.3 miles is good.

Tramps, good RW for 4.7 miles.

I'm still recovering from Mexico but I managed a quick 5 miler and now I have to prep my class for 3rd year university Français students. I am still wondering why I took this on at this point but... Have a great day Masters!

              Howdy folks.

I had my 6 month review at my job yesterday, and thankfully it went well.

Half-Birthdays?  It reminds me of when DS was little and we ate lunch at a Hooters in Virginia Beach on vacation, and DH told the (somewhat dizzy) waitress that it was DS's birthday.  (It was not.)  She gathered a group of the Hooters girls and they sang Happy Birthday to DS and took a picture with him wearing a party hat and holding a balloon.  "How old is he?"  She asked DH, and he said, "Two and a Half."

3 miles for me this morning in a windy 44 degrees.

Life is a headlong rush into the unknown. We can hunker down and hope nothing hits us or we can stand tall, lean into the wind and say, "Bring it on, darlin', and don't be stingy with the jalapenos."

In elementary school kids with summer birthdays got to celebrate their half birthdays so they wouldn’t feel left out.  I resumed the practice when my girls were in college so there would be a good excuse for me to send a care package.

vandals tripped the breaker at our food pantry but we discovered it before any food spoiled.  Thank goodness.  I’ll head back over when we open at noon and help with food distribution.  And my plan is to run/walk after.  Sometimes the pantry frustrations are such that I need a good run to calm down.  I hope that is not the case today and I can run just because it’s fun.

Hey, All - I was on the computer working for half of Saturday and didn't feel like getting on it anymore over the weekend.  Then yesterday work was freaking busy and then I didn't get home until almost 6:00.  All that is my excuse as to why I'm only checking in now.

I got in my trail miles Saturday before it started raining, and then Sunday it pretty much poured all day.  Yesterday it was decent, but it was a core/ST day.  Today I overslept, so barely time for 3 of the 4 planned miles.  It's been raining off and on since last night and is supposed to continue until some time this afternoon, but then we're supposed to get about a week or so of clear weather.  Yay!  I'm really tired of the rain.

I got word from my buddy, Karen, that her brain MRI came out clear - Woot woot!! What a relief! She doesn't have to have another one for a year.  However, something popped up on her breast MRI, so that was sent to a specialist to review.  Hopefully, just an anomaly.

My brother forwarded to me the ultrasound of my nephew's baby.  Those things are just freaky weird!  Not sure it's anything I need to see again.

Okay - Work never ends, so I gotta get to it.  . . . anyone else tired of adulting these days???

                    Most days....

Dnaff - that stinks about the vandals.  Glad it got caught before worse damage was done.

Well, I won my dispute with Experian and the collection agency who said I had a PayDay Loan from 2019, and got my credit score back up to 843 or thereabouts.  Such a pita to deal with these things, but a relief when it is finally resolved.

Holly-  I can't believe you've been at that job for 6 months!  Glad you got a good review. (not surprised)

Well, at least your son was holding a balloon at Hooters and not something else big and round!

8.1 pretty difficult miles on a beautiful 40-49 degree, sunny morning.  My legs were just tired.  I got it done.  Oh- when I finished a message came up on my phone from my Sonic app telling me about a chocolate covered strawberry milkshake.  Somehow, even though it was technically breakfast time for me, that sounded SO good.  I drove immediately to Sonic and ordered one.  It's no worse than donuts, right?  Dairy and fruit!  :]  It's really good.

Dave- glad things are settling down at work for you a bit.

                        good news on Karen

Growing up on Long Island, all my first cousins had bdays in either January or May, so there were big January parties.  Being deprived (March bday), we also celebrated a half bday in September - not sure how old I was when that stopped.

Beautiful and less windy day here today, so we walked some on the Charles.  Unfortunately too much stuff to do for book club at our home tonight (includes dinner)

                          I just saw this.

I got in a long trail run of 15.3 miles on Saturday, with near 3K of climb, which may explain why it was such a tough run. HR high, pace slow. I haven't been doing a lot of trails lately and I didn't eat like I should have. 2 Gu's of 100 cals each and one pack of Skratch chews that is around 150 cals.

                          Tsk tsk, young lady.

I think the half birthday celebrations were just a thing in my family, although I've heard about it from a few others.

lol Leslie - I actually thought of you when I knew I wasn't eating enough and was sure wishing I had some avocado rice balls on me. Those would have hit the spot.  I'll do better this weekend and prepare real food to bring along with me.

After a couple days of lotsa rain, we are finally drying out a bit. Should be nice by this afternoon - or at least dry - and then gradually climbing up each day and it'll feel amazing by the wknd - low 70's, sunny! I told my husband he better get out the mower and fire it up because after all this rain, and then all the sunshine coming, the lawns will explode!

I don't know - for every marathon I have run, I have used four GUs total, and a few sips of Gatorade at each station - maybe a total liquid intake of 24-30 oz for the whole race.  (This is why I think it is ludicrous every time I see women out walking the neighborhood carrying massive bottles of water for their 1 to 3 mile walks.)  For every 50k I have run, no matter how slow (a couple have taken 7-8 hours), I have used 5 GUs, and nibbled a bit at aid stations, but not much.  I could not possibly eat as much as Leslie does or I would be nauseas the entire time.
