Shin Splints (Read 247 times)

rfleming

I get shin splints, most noticeably from increasing my distance or running on harder surfaces (not so bad on the treadmill). I know for me, the cause is having flat feet. I went to an orthopedist and he recommended some orthotics with a posted heel to help prevent my ankle from rolling inwards. I have been using them for about two months. I think they are helping a little. I also always keep a fairly new pair of shoes around...I do use a stability shoe (Asics). I've been taking ibuprofen, stretching before and after, doing warm-up and cool-down walks, and icing and I still get them. They aren't painful to the point that I can't function, but more of an aggravation. Anyone have an experience with battling these? Got any tips or suggestions? Thanks, Ron Fleming
