Notes

2 mile @9:50-10:00+3xMile @4:40-45 w/3' rest. I was a feel in the single digits this morning so Richey cancelled practice and told us to get it in later in the day as our work schedules permitted. Austen and I had the same workout and luckily could meet up to do it together. It warmed all the way up to 16 degrees and a 10 degree windchill at 11:30 when we started. The sun eventually showed through the clouds but it only warmed us when we weren't in motion, otherwise the wind cut through. We started off with the 2 mile and it was a hot opening mile of 4:53 but the second mile finished with a 600-800 gradual uphill so coming back in a 5:01 (9:54.4) wasn't surprising. I had been feeling heavy all morning, especially with pushing the workout back later in the day but had hoped that the opening 2 mile would pop me open. I didnt feel gassed at the end but it was a harder effort than anticipated. We set off on the first mile. I pulled away from Austen at halfway and tried to keep the pressure on but my legs were hardly responding. 4:46.3 was disappointing. I wanted to get through the next one in better shape so I knew I'd need to get out a little harder. 4:45.1 was an improvement but I was still fringing on the slow end of the given range. I told Austen I wanted to run at least 4:44 to get the average to 4:45. He came with me this time, telling me he would try to help pull me through. We ran the last one side by side and despite a charge at the end, the overall time was alright at best. 4:43.0. It was one of those days, and maybe it was because of the cold, or the messed up schedule, but nothing came easy and I had to grind. If anything I guess its promising that I can grind in the 4:4x's now, which wasn't so much the case back in the summer.
