2x3 mile w/5' jog. With my shin feeling better I wanted to get a good workout in and get the quality rolling again, but the weather is nothing to be trifled with. 76 degrees w/ a 71 degree dew point made the air thick and the sweat did nothing to cool me off. I took off on the first rep and thought I was working close to 5:00 pace but it chimed at 5:16. From there I focused on the effort because even that early the heat was hitting me. 5:06 to rally back but I died a bit to 5:11 to finish the first rep in 15:34.1. I wasn't totally disappointed by the first 3 miles but it wasn't what I wanted, I was hoping I could come in around 5:00 pace. My goal going for the second 3 mile was to just run faster than the first, and I opened in 5:06 which was promising. However, I started to lag in the middle and it wasn't for a lack of effort, I was just getting wrecked by the heat and humidity, still managed 5:13 and with a spurt at the end 5:11 to finish in 15:31.1. While it was a mediocre workout where I worked hard to not run very fast, I am happy to report that my shin was not an issue whatsoever, so now it is going to be about building back to race fitness and preparation over the next couple weeks. I have scratched out of Portland to go all in for the Half.
