6x3' on-3' off. First workout back and it was a lot like ripping off a bandaid. Frank was the only other person working out on the roads so we started out together. It was a quick reality that my previous fitness hadn't carried over quite as much as I'd hoped. I was fine for the first half of the initial surge but quickly the sustained effort caught up to me. I let frank go a little at the end but caught up on the float. I tried to go with again but the air felt thin and my legs got heavy all of a sudden. I'd gutted out sub-5 pace for the first third but it took quite a toll. I let Frank go completely so I could recover enough through the float. I don't know if it was a pitty party that I felt bad or if there were unfortunate hills during the middle reps but I slowed considerably. I felt out of sorts and the heavy mechanics were making things all the worse. I finally told myself to chill out and not worry about the pace since things were slipping anyway. What I found was a stronger stride, better moderated effort and even though my throat was burning I ran my two fastest reps at the end. Paces: 4:58 (6:40), 4:56 (6:14), 5:03 (6:27), 5:12 (6:28), 4:54 (6:35), 4:55 (6:32).
