12 miles @ 5:10-20+ half mile float+ mile @ 5:05+ half mile float+mile strong. Got an absolutely perfect morning for one of my last big workouts of the build, it was a sunny, 50 degree, breathless day. Had Tom's twin brother, Alex, with me and Lucio was going 3 mile reps and would sync up well but I would only have each of them for portions as Alex was only doing 5 miles and Lucio is still coming into fitness. However I appreciated their company as I locked in early and rolled along easily for the first 6 miles. It was an effort that was synonymous with marathon effort and each passing mile filled me with confidence for NYC. Hit the first half in 31:36 and didn't need to get going much faster but the positive momentum made me hopeful I could keep it steady. My legs were starting to get a little tired after 10 miles but the last 2 there were totally manageable as I mentally prepped for the pushes. Finished in 62:50 (31:14 second half): 5:16, :14: 18, :13, :20, :12, :09, :13, :13, :11, :13, :12. The half mile was plenty of recovery (3:08) and I spent the first k of the push mile checking my watch for the half marathon split (1:08:54). I had been going a little quick and backed off at the end to keep it reasonable. Split 4:58.3. I was feeling good going into the last push after floating a 3:06 half mile but would have to start out with the last bit of Gunbarrel Dr. I didn't want to blow my wad early so I started reasonably and gently squeezed the pace down to run 4:51.0. really happy with the effort today! My form felt smooth and controlled and I handled the accumulating fatigue well as I advanced through the workout. Almost all of the work is done and today's workout gave me a tremendous boost going into the taper.
