Notes

4x2 miles @10:00 w/half mile jog. It was in the teens this morning but the bright sun let me get away with half tights. I was not feeling fleet of foot on the warm-up and there was not a lot of spring during the strides. took off on the first rep and tried to just focus on the effort. we opened up with a slow 5:10.2. the first mile was almost 60ft of gain and the second mile was roughly 50 ft loss so we were able to get some time back. followed that slow mile up with a 4:53.2 to run 10:03.4. The rest was plenty of time to get ready for the next. I took the point for the first mile on all of the rest of the reps and Willie would pull back up on me down Manhattan. #2 was a more balanced 5:04.3/4:57.8 to run 10:02.1. I was still feeling fine going into the penultimate rep and thanks to a harder close, Willie and I slipped under 10:00; 5:05.8/4:53.6 (9:59.5). Going into the last rep I was feeling great and even after suffering from the snot in my nose freezing at the beginning of the workout, my breathing was relatively controlled. Opened up with 5:04.8 for the last one and right around then Willie went around me and pressed hard into the final mile. I periodically checked my pace and knew I was still running a quick finish, but Willie buried me. I ran 4:48.2 but it paled in comparison to Willie's 4:37. 9:53.0. The recoveries were just short of a half-mile (.45, between 3:25-45) because we didn't feel like jogging around to get the exact mileage. Feeling confident after today. It's been a while since I was able to run well while tired. I am ready to race.
