Tried to do the 15-16 mile tempo at marathon pace that I abandoned two days earlier, and this time I tried to do it on rolling hills in UP. Ha! After the second of 4 planned 4 mile loops, I stopped for maybe 2 minutes while getting gel and water. I really didn't want to run any more but willed myself to continue on, though less than a mile later (uphill) I stopped for good. Maybe I could have gone further if I had started slower, perhaps around 7:00 pace. I'm just not in great shape right now, and a lot of that is mental. Physical and mental conditioning proceed together, and I'm behind on both. What I notice most, though, is how much less I'm willing to push myself. Maybe on some level I "know" that I'm not in a condition to sustain pushing harder. Or maybe I'm still kind of cowering from winter weather, even though now it seems gone for the year.
