Notes

Tonight's workout was focused on shorter and faster speedwork. Began with an 800 at threshold just to get warmed up. Then moved into two sets of the following: 400 at repeat, 30 second rest, 800 at repeat, 60 seconds rest, 400 at repeat. Between the two sets was a generous 5 minute rest. Following set two was another 5 minute rest followed by 4 x 200 at repeat (or faster) with as much rest as desired.

I knew the 800s at repeat were going to be a challenge, but just wasn't even close. Lap 1 was usually on where I wanted to be, but the second 400 was always pretty significantly off. 400's were where I was expecting and the same with the 200's. The idea was that the 200's could be all out, but still wasn't feeling 100% back into form so opted for repeat or a little faster without going all-out racing. No need to risk injury tonight.

Ran the workout with Keefe. Despite him racing Wachusett this weekend and doing a long bike ride, he simply kicked my butt out there. He should be primed for a good summer / fall and can probably make a good run at Jake/Alex. I just couldn't stick with him.

Felt good that I hit my goal paces for everything but the 800's. At the same time, the thought of racing miles or 1500's seems intimidating knowing how difficult these repeat paces felt. The workout was set up right, but didn't gain that confidence I was hoping to get from a solid track workout. Didn't blow up and didn't fall apart, but didn't kill it either. Thinking about doing the mini meet next Wednesday and possibly a twilight 5000 the following weekend. We'll see if I go for it.
