Notes

Tonight's workout was a change from all of the long-distance based workouts we had been doing all winter. With my goals of doing some shorter races this summer and doing lower mileage, these will be pretty helpful. The scheduled workout was going to be based off time, rather than distance. we would start off with 40 seconds faster than repeat pace, followed by 30 seconds of jogging. we would do 4 reps of this with a 3:00 minute jog after the 4th rep. We would then do one more set.

This workout was much harder than it seemed. In total, there was less than 2 miles of continuous running, of which part was the jogging portion. We spread out across the track to help avoid congestion, which was good to give everyone some extra space at first but had the downside of not being able to use each other to push through the pain. I find that I typically fail during track workouts when running solo. Another aspect of tonight was ignoring the watch during the intervals. I hit the laps so I could track later, but did the entire workout without looking at my watch for pacing, distance, or time.

First 2 reps felt some burn, but by 3 and 4 I just didnt seem to be hitting the paces I had planned. I was laboring each of the fast intervals and just couldnt get into a groove. The 3 minutes jogging recovery between the two sets somehow turned into only 2 minutes, which didnt help my fatigue. To be honest, I just didnt have it tonight. Whether it was the full 3 minutes or the shorter rest that we actually got, I would not have felt good about the way the workout went. The second set was slow from the start. Got maybe a little push on the last rep, but otherwise probably wasnt hitting repeat pace at all.

Still keeping my mileage pretty conservative right now, but between MOMs run and this, it seems like something is off. Have Evan's Run coming up this weekend, then a little break before my next race. Maybe consider doing some mini meets if I feel up to it, but need to somehow let my body catch up and get back into shape. I felt great in March / early April, now it feels like I am starting over.
