Notes

Wanted to run this one. Lots of logistics for a 10K. Satellite parking, point to point, two bus rides, over 6200 people. Crazy. Nice race but probably a once and done event.

Race went well enough. The downhill start was nice for an easy sub 6 mile. Just didn't have it for the uphills at speed. Felt blocked to a certain effort level and never really could flip that "race switch." Considering that it's not a bad result at all. Last mile really sucked. I just couldn't run hills much faster than 6:20 the entire race.

About .1 from the some jackass made a boneheaded and aggressive move and tried to pass me on the inside of a turn and knocked my feet out from under me. Somehow I didn't hit the deck. What the hell? Racing like that for 180th pace? I turned to him and said something like "what the hell" then told him he wasn't going to beat me and took off like a bullet for the finish. Last .2 in 63 seconds is decent.

Was hoping for under 38 to let me know my fitness is good. 4 seconds over is within the margin of error. I'm satisfied but really want to go faster in September. I'll need some more fitness and speed as well as being able to flip that "race" switch in my head.

GPS 5K splits were 19:00 and 19:02 but I remember running under the 5K clock at 19:03 which would give me a 19:01 second 5K and a negative split. I'll take that. Another good sign is that a month ago running a 5K a in just under 19 almost killed me and today I ran two in similar time and felt great at the end.
