Notes
Interesting run in Atlanta. Decided to go on a mystery run by running in one direction until I couldn't go any farther. Got on North Ave and took that out of downtown towards Georgia Tech. The neighborhood quickly started getting really run down and a little sketchy, but it was 9am on a Saturday morning, so I wasn't too concerned.
Then, when things were starting to get kind of dicey, I saw a cop car who held his arm out of the window to stop me. At first I was worried that he was stopping me because I had been running in the road rather than on the sidewalk (mainly because the sidewalk was covered in broken glass), but instead he told me that I really should run somewhere else because it would be really dangerous for someone like me to be running in this area.
I ended up taking his advice and running through a little nicer part of town for the rest of the run.
When I got back home, I mapped out where I had gone and it turns out that I was running through the middle of "The Bluff" which has been rated top 5 most dangerous neighborhoods in the US multiple times. Where the police officer stopped me was also a block and half from an intersection that reporters call the largest open air heroin market in the south east.
In short, I will not be running through that area of Atlanta again.
