Firecracker 5k. I guess I'm okay with this. Second sub 20 in a row and this was kind of a tough race because my training has sucked this past month and it was a huge race (for Naples), 1050 runners, so the start was a clusterfuck. The start may have screwed my race up. I was in the 11th/12th row so it took me 5 seconds to get to the line and there was a wall in front of me. Finally worked my way to the sidewalk and ran down that for a bit way too fast. When I finally got back on the road I was behind Nolan and Stranger, so yeah I was a little f'd. Didn't really settle into a good pace until almost the first turn, 3/4 mile in. Ness cruises past at this point so I just tried to keep him in sight. Second lap I started to race pretty well and closed Ness a bit but I never got closer than 5 seconds. Kick at the end... Ckc yells to me and points behind me and sure enough Devin was right on my tail. So in one month she went from a 20:40 on a short course to a sub 20 on a good or long course. She is amazing! Cool down with Dermot and Devin then we hung around for the awards. 3rd in ag for me, 1st for Devin and 2nd for the D. I was 5th masters men and, oh yeah, Devin was 2nd woman overall. Ridiculous. Kind of bummed I didn't see Tommy, Erica or Laurel after the race.
Anecdotes: at around 2 some guy my age powers past me on the right. I pick my pace up and say to him "I'm not going away that easily." Then I buried him. At 2.5, I cut some kid off at a turn, I apologize and he barks at me "I'm following you just go." So much for being polite, I buried him too.
