Notes

Got off work at 1530 and had Dewi on Suby already so headed right to McBaine. I was thinking 20 earlier, but since I got off early I thought maybe 30+. Headed toward Rocheport. I was feeling really good. Took a short stop at Rocheport and ate the rest of the chewies. I had had half prior to the ride. Figured I'd go 8 or so past Rocheport. I was feeling good, however, there was no one around, the sky was awesome and it felt a bit like the old days. I thought that New Franklin couldn't be much farther on up and it would be nice to go there and stop again. It was a bit further than I had remembered, but I made it there fine. Ate a protein thing. Met up with some folks there. One was a 22 year old guy - nice looking with lots of dreds. Got to talking. He was WALKING and pulling (pushing?) a fully loaded bike trailer thing. He had left from Machens and had done about 170 miles. Plan A for him was to go to the state of California, but he said he had just decided to call it quits. The interesting part was that it wasn't the physical issues, it was being alone for that long. Nice kid. Said he'd try to finish the journey another time. He had already biked from MO to VA and then to Key West with his brother so he's used to the adventure, but this alone business would take more prep. Very interesting. Headed from there back to Roche. Was feeling good still and keeping a better pace than expected. How nice to feel good again! Ate tuna. After Roche - about halfway to McBaine I started to feel just a touch weary, but not much and at no time did I feel bonky. Had to go past McBaine to round off to a pretty 40. Boy was I dirty! My arms had served as great gnat collectors on that one stretch too. I looked like a dalmatian - white with black spots. Tired after this so I know I have a lot of work still to do, but thrilled I made it! It's encouraging.
