Notes

Ran with Jay, told the preacher/ money joke and had a nice time. Slipped on some ice turning a corner and went down like a puppet with its strings cut, but the only thing bruised was my pride.

I have quite a dilemma with indoor nationals. This year and next year, there are prelims for the 3k. So, the schedule goes 3k prelims--7 hours-- 5k final--18 hours-- 3k finals. I am currently ranked 17th in the 3k and 11th in the 5k. I don't know if all of the girls ranked ahead of me will race (they may choose to drop one if they are qualified in both). I feel like I could really do something special in the 5k, but the contrarian in me loves the idea of doing both just to show that I can. Dropping out of the 5k is not an option. Before conference, I just wanted to hit sub-10 in the 3k to prove that I could. I wasn't intending on running it at nationals. If the team were in a position to score as a team, I would just do whatever was best for the team, but we are not in that position. Either way, it's going to be a mental and physical trial. If I choose to drop the 3k, it puts a lot of pressure on me to perform well in the 5k. But, I also feel that if I don't try to race in both, what am I doing? I have to take risks once in a while, right? "If you've got skin in the game, you stay in the game. But you don't get to win unless you play in the game." I tend to play it safe, but, as they say, "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got."
