Even to negative splits, 35:48 in the last 10k was almost an in-race PR. Attacked the uphill, flew downhill, cruised triumphantly through downtown, having passed dozens of people after the hill. Then completely bonked in the last 100m and hurled at the finish line. I can still hear the collective groan from the crowd.
Jim and I ran together, but I pulled ahead after the hill. In the early section of the race, we had a nice interaction with former Swartz Creek stud Paul Sisovsky and a few other former Big 9 guys. Paul made a wisecrack about the race being a "Big 9 alumni meet". Sad to read that he passed away from cancer (fuck you cancer) a few years ago.
Made the Best of 1990 State of Michigan for 15k 15-19AG.
