Anyone else disappointed by Garmin's decision to blow up the customizable dashboard and replace it with a small handful of relatively useless data items?
5k 23:48.45 (3/22); 4M 31:26 (2/22); 5M 38:55 (11/23); 10k 49:24 (10/22); 10M 1:29:33 (2/24); Half 1:48:32 (10/22); Marathon 4:29:58 (11/23)Upcoming races: Greta's Run 5k, 5/19; Scotch Plains 5k, 6/12
an amazing likeness
Looks like it is a move they needed to make as they have moved well beyond focusing on tracking workouts into all-day, all-time 'bio metric' (my term) stuff. A dashboard focused on workouts doesn't align with the sleep, health, etc, etc tracking done by all the recent devices.
I noticed after spending some time adding, removing and updating the info cards on their dashboard that the data panel behind a workout in 'today's activity' is unchanged.
To your point, it looks to be one of the biggest updates since they acquired the site from Motionbased ~15 years ago.
Acceptable at a dance, invaluable in a shipwreck.
Interesting perspective. I guess your point is they're moving away from being an athletics-focused business to a health/wellness focused business?

That ship sailed quite some time ago...take a quick look at their device selection guide to get a sense of just how much the Forerunner is now a segment of a large universe of use cases.
It's a good point. They successfully transitioned from a manufacturer of car GPS/driving instruction devices to running watches when smart phones took over giving directions, so they're probably looking ahead again. Bummer for people like me, but then I'm not a high revenue source for them.
Well, in a less than stellar deployment, the new site has crashed and generally presents just a blank screen to users (this from Garmin support, though not verbatim). Not a great look when you already have unhappy users. I'm sure someone (or several someones) in IT is have a bad day.

From reading some of the outrage the last couple of days, I get the impression that it really depends how you used the old homepage. I used to have a bunch of goals on my homepage and those aren't even an option on the new one.
I hadn't considered that it's just going to a lifestyle branch. I thought maybe it was trying to appeal to a mobile friendly design while I'm using the web version.

Maybe. Do firms worry about being mobile friendly when they have apps? (Thinking out loud - not being rhetorical.)
Not sure. But for Strava, even though I have the app, sometimes I use the mobile browser version instead; there are things you can do there that you can't do in the app. I rarely use a desktop browser for any of them, unless I need to download/upload a workout file (usually because the RA auto-transfer is down).

The majority of user-facing software development is mobile-first these days, not a new trend. Garmin Connect app on Android updated the other day to be aligned with new web-based layout.
There's a hilarious post over on reddit Garmin sub from a person saying something like "I was a beta tester and I told them they'd f'd up. They said 'thanks' and then f'd up some more...".
I guess I'm just too much of a data person. I like my spreadsheets and detailed dashboards, which really don't work well on a phone, so I remain primarily a desktop user. When I'm home, it's not uncommon for my phone to be in a different room than me for hours at a time. I suppose that also makes me an outlier and not the target audience for web interface updates & redesigns.
I don't even have a cell phone although I know that window is slowly coming to an end. Likely this summer.
The information is still on Garmin, just not the homepage. Just a bit more using that left sidebar.

They f/&%$ed it up for me (German version) too. Just took them a day longer. I could 🤮.
Don't hurry - next AG will start 2026
My mobile version just went to crap too. <sigh>
Mine too, but you can edit the home screen to show only the stuff you want to see. I removed a lot of crap.
