Mark - Awesome job with the win. Perhaps your experience with the previous races is now paying off. I'm sure the course was quite complex seeing as you ran a full minute slower than on the flat.

me - A very tiring week due to the traveling, but got it done. My legs are trashed at the moment, but hopefully they recover in time for the 5k the next weekend.

It's been nice to run on my old stomping grounds.

There's gonna be a 9 hour bus ride on Tuesday night that will probably deplete me a bit, but hopefully I can recover quickly as I'll be eating mom's food, the best medicine there is ❤️

    Running Problem

    Problem Child

You mean the guy requesting more money to Ukraine while New York has a housing problem for homeless, and Hawaii is on fire with 80 deaths already? Who would think that guy was a clown. It’s entirely logical to keep giving someone else help when your own family hasn’t asked.

id say I’m the clown is the Governor of Arizona declaring an emergency for HEAT.  In Arizona.  The desert. Where it’s known to be 120F every summer. Including the month of august. So now it’s an emergency because any time an emergency is delayed we get money. Joe Biden isn’t a clown. He’s a politician.

Joe Biden is surely a contender.

I took a Greyhound from Milwaukee to Chicago in 2016 and it was fine.  I was very nervous we might break down in some of the outer suburbs of Chicago though.

Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

The one thing I’ve observed as I get older is that most people just go along with what they’re told by the government and don’t actually think, especially after the covid bullshit and now it’s the climate change bullshit…so be prepared for relentless weather propaganda.

American clown of the week must surely go to Rapinoe for missing that penalty.

57.5 miles for me this week…had to take a couple of days off because of a hamstring niggle but hopefully it’s under control now. 🙏

I don’t watch sports all so all I saw in the news was “Trump says mean thinks about woman’s soccer team.” Seriously, the hate for him, and the amount of attention the people who hate him give him is amazing. It’s like Howard Stern back in the 90s.

I love that there's a Bald Eagle next to Imperial lol. Nice touch. I'm feeling good about hitting 70 miles for the week on all singles despite Wednesday through Saturday being during vacation. I got absolutely wrecked by a jellyfish. Almost half of my lower back is covered in dark red streaks and blisters are forming. That's going to be annoying for the next few days.

What’s funny is that Trump has made a career of spewing bile and hatred 24/7 at all kinds of people and groups. Then when he’s criticized for it, his supporters say “oh, you hate him so much, you must have TDS.”  You can’t really NOT give him any attention, he’s the former President and the likely 2024 Republican nominee.

Anyhoo—anyone want to talk about running? I had a great week!

My Wed workout is one of my marathon training mainstays: 5x1600m around LT pace with 3 min recoveries (plus 3x200m at the end). I’ll often do 6 but I was still a bit hesitant due to HM recovery. I like these to be ~6:45-6:50. A bit slow to start as usual, but got into range: 7:02, 6:54, 6:44, 6:48, 6:47. Satisfied with that, and feeling recovered.

Saturday I planned some kind of LR workout, but wasn’t sure exactly what. The downside to not having a rigid plan; I was just going to pick something randomly from a previous plan. But the woman from my running group I ran that half with (she finished 30 sec ahead of me) had a workout from her coach. It was 4 warmup, 3x3 miles with 0.5 mile recovery, 2 miles cooldown. The 3 mile segments were supposed to be 7:10, 7:00, 6:50. I thought that was ridiculous for me, especially that 3rd rep. But I figured I’d give it a go, not worry too much about hitting the paces, and bail if/when necessary. Ended up doing better than I expected: 7:15, 7:08, 7:03, giving everything I had left in the last mile (6:52). I was very happy with that. I expected a sluggish recovery slog to follow on Sunday, but it was actually OK.

Feeling like I’m on a good path for my marathon in 5 weeks.

Dave - I agree, you're looking like you're on a great path.  Logic points to a significant PR, with the usual caveats that anything can happen etc.

mmerkle - Really nice week, and yuk on the jellyfish.

Josh - Unfortunately all the lies has blown their credibility.

Mikkey - I thought this thread would be the place I'd be safe from seeing that face!

Mark - Very nice win.  Interesting that this guy faded so much, or did you change up your race strategy?

Flavio - oof, that's a big week when you're a bit unsettled.  With that bus ride too, I'd be having a pretty quiet week leading into that 5km.

me - Pretty happy with the week considering how it started - Saturday - Monday were all days off due to illness.  I think being sensible has helped me get back on track quicker.  Saturday was a barn run (enforced negative split with 42 mins mid zone 3 out, 38 mins lower zone 4 back with 10 mins warm up and down).  I did feel like I was working harder than usual, and expected that given I was still recovering, but a heart rate in the high 180s was unexpected.  It didn't feel as bad as the data suggests but I hope I haven't blown myself up a bit.  2 weeks until the Canterbury Road Running Champs 10km.  Despite the sandbagging accusations I think 39:59 is a decent target with 8 180 degree turns.  There was a time when a sub 40 10km was the stuff of dreams.

                          Essentially this.

nice looking week. Should be interesting to watch it turn into another successful marathon.

Many of us aren't sure what the hell point you are trying to make and no matter how we guess, it always seems to be something else. Which usually means a person is doing it on purpose.

It would be funny if it’s Biden (in a dementia home) and Trump (in a prison cell) looking to be President again in 2024.

Funny for you, because you don’t live here. Biden will still be in the White House and Trump will never see a day behind bars, but it’s almost certain that’s going to be the Presidential race.

I can't believe it. Biden running for the president just showing how irresponsible the guy is. He is a laughing stock for the whole World and the fact nobody can tell him that (he obviously is not capable to understand it himself) just proves the system is so bad and maybe irreparable - that it's not funny at all for the long time by now...

And the worst part is that many people will go and vote for Biden only because they are so brainwashed by this stupid GAME that rules a Democrat should vote for a candidate from Democrats...

Not much to say about this week. We had some nice weather in the middle of the week (especially Wednesday) and then it heated up for the weekend. Hopefully we'll have some cooler weather for this upcoming weekend.

When marathon training, I alternate weekends with 20+ milers and weekends with marathon pace workouts. I'm actually fine with the 20+ milers being in hot conditions because even if I can't pick up the pace much due to weather, I've accomplished a lot just by getting 20+ miles in. It's much more important to me to have reasonable weather for the marathon pace workouts.

Everyone's gotta running blog; I'm the only one with a POOL-RUNNING blog.

And...if you want a running Instagram where all the pictures are of cats, I've got you covered.
