Notes

Chicago, IL. Long run along the lake shore. First and last mile was on sidewalks, crossing streets, and dodging cars. The first half was with a headwind and second half with a tailwind. This was a run with 3 experiments.

1. Drinking Accellerade before, during and after. I drank 6 oz just prior, 18 oz during, and 12 oz of R4 after. I had no problem with GI distress. I ate about 3 hours prior. I drank every 2 miles. I did not feel fatigued and felt as though I had more energy at the end. I believe the improvements in endurance and muscle damage are real and will be a good addition to my training. I improved my long run average by 43 sec/mi in one week. And this run was a mile longer!

2. My HRM worked well with no water, in the cold and wind. It seemed to be very accurate with no wild swings. I'll try the HRM cream in the near future.

3. Keeping a steady pace. My pace was all over the place. 10:15 to 8:55 miles on a flat course. I did have a head and then tailwind. I tried to run a long run pace/perceived effort without looking at my Garmin. I did consciously increase my effort when I was on my way back. I felt strong and had a lot of reserve due to the sports drink.
