Staying w S in Burnsall - 7 mile (?) walk on the fells! Elbolton Hill (managed not to fall into the cave entrance near the summit), delightful Thorpe hamlet, trackless heather to the 506m summit of Thorpe Fell (found it eventually), w beautiful views of the River Wharfe below. Extremely steep descent to the fields behind the Devonshire Fell hotel (on the fell race route!).
